Why does Jay Janower always sound so pissed off?

I was listening in to Jay Janower of Global BC Sports fill in for Dan Russell on Sportstalk last night. To start off the show, he went a 20 minute diatribe about how Canadian Olympic team still wasn't the getting the results that we expect and speculated some of the reasons that he thought we were getting the results that we have. He listed as an example the practice of awarding participation ribbons on children's sporting activities as taking away from the competitiveness of sporting events, and creating a culture that being there and not winning is good enough.

While I don't necessarily disagree with that statement, Team Canada's positive results in the fast few days that have already surpassed 2004 with many days left takes some of the sting out of that argument. Clearly, the Canadian Olympic Committee's hiring of Alex Baumann from Australia to take over Canada's Road to Excellence initiative beginning in January 2007 has already begun to yield results. However my big issues with Jay's rant are twofold. Firstly, he needs to chill out! When I used to listen to him fill in on Mojo, he was exactly the same way, continually pissed off. jay, the glass isn't always fully empty! Secondly, he went on a brief tangent and targetted certain 'cultures' as part of the reason that Canada has disappointed in the world sporting stage, citing cuts in Richmond's school district as influencing this. Whoa! Wait a sec here. Certain cultures and Richmond.....hmm.......... what could you possibly be suggesting Jay? Oh I get it, blame Asian immigrants. It's fashionable, especially on the internet. He did return to his argument, probably when he realized that he was wading into outright racist territory instead of implied. Culture is sure holding back the Chinese Olympic Team from leading the medal count, eh?

There are many places to point fingers in this argument, but pointing to certain cultures is lame, pure and simple.
